Rome, Italy – A 77 year old Italian World Cup fan, while prematurely hanging his country’s flag, plummeted to his death on Saturday.

According to Roman officials the fall off the ladder did not kill the man, rather, his body falling into a precipice which was filled with gnarling rats, feral cats and rusty Roman reenactment swords claimed his life.

Investigators cited an inflated sense of pride as the cause of death.
